Why Move?
The more we move, the better we feel. We can learn a lot about ourselves and our lives if we pay attention to what our body is saying. How do we tap into that knowledge? How do we learn to listen to the wisdom held within us and use that information for our overall well-being and personal growth? It's simple, but not necessarily easy...we must move our bodies. The fact is though, many of us don't. Despite our best intentions to be more physically active, we do not make moving our body on a daily basis a priority.
I help people move in physical ways that create opportunites to be moved mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Why Do I Do What I Do?
Having worked as a life coach for ten years, I helped hundreds of people to clarify their values, create action plans and achieve their goals. I asked deep questions, offered playful suggestions and encouraged my clients to be patient as they worked to discover their own answers. During that time, I was introduced to ecstatic dance (also known as free-form movement) and it quickly became a tool for my own personal growth and transformation.
As I began to facilitate more dance events and experiences, I realized I was weaving in elements of coaching to the participants pretty much every chance I got. I saw how powerful the combination of intention, physical movement and conversation could be when a safe and comfortable space to share had been created. Merging my love of the coaching process and my passion for dance was a natural step for me to take and to begin offering to others. It's the work I was meant to do in this world.
What is Movement-Based Coaching?
Movement-based coaching is an active, engaging and effective way to learn more about yourself and what you want. It's not about dancing (although you can certainly dance during a session if you'd like). It's about allowing your body to move in ways that provide you with insights and answers about yourself and your life. It's about taking time out from the analytical process of your mind and interacting with the physical expression of your body.
What are some benefits of Movement-Based Coaching?
- Objective perspectives from a supportive witness
- New ways of looking at a situation
- Improved health and overall feelings about one's body
- Expression of emotions that have been repressed
- More self-confidence and self-awareness
- A creative outlet to relieve stress, anxiety and depression
- Achieving a resolution about a conflict or issue
- Feeling satisfied about self-created solutions
What can happen during a coaching session?
A lot. Or very little. It really depends on you. Every session is individualized. There is some structure, but there is no formal model or agenda I follow. A conversation takes place before any movement begins. I ask a series of questions to get a better understanding of the issue(s) you want support around. These questions will help you explore your thoughts, beliefs, and feelings and will help me create a personalized playlist of music for you during the movement portion of your coaching session.
What can happen is your body will move and be moved by what is stirred up in you.
What can happen is you'll feel strong emotions.
What will happen during every session is you'll experience unconditional, candid and compassionate support from me.
How do we work together?
There are three components to the coaching program I offer. Ideally, all three take place within one month's time. Email exchanges and brief phone conversations in between sessions are included during the month.
1) A two-hour intake session ~ This conversation can occur either in person or over the phone. It involves questions and answers, insights and inspirations, and us creating a plan together for your next session. You will already have completed a questionnaire I've sent you prior to this session.
2) A 90 minute movement session ~ This meeting is only available in person. A personalized playlist of music has been prepared for you. I will guide you through some simple body-awareness exercises before any movement begins. When your focus is on how your body wants to move rather than how your mind wants to distract you, it becomes easier to hear your own answers and solutions. As you listen to the playlist and let the experience move you, I will be there to hold a safe place for you, to witness your dance, and be there to provide on-the-spot coaching, observations and support. You are provided a copy of your personalized playlist.
3) A 30 minute follow-up session ~ This conversation can either be in person or by phone. It entails an objective summary of your previous two sessions and a plan of action for moving forward.
This program is $500. An initial 30 minute phone consultation is complimentary. Additional coaching is offered on a session-to-session basis as often as one desires. Each session is 45 minutes and is $100. No long-term commitments are required after the program has been completed.
If you are interested in being coached without the body-based movement component and/or you are unable to meet in person due to location, phone/Skype/email coaching is available.
2 Sessions per month $300
3 Sessions per month $375
Sessions are 45 minutes in length and included a comprehensive intake session, unlimited email support and inspirational goodies.
